About

This project began with a question – would a small extension from the existing kitchen diner truly make a worthwhile difference? Our clients loved their home but felt the space could better reflect the way they live and entertain. Once we developed the design incorporating the additional floor area, the advantages became immediately clear. The extension has transformed the room into a spacious, sociable environment that they are now thoroughly enjoying.

As keen entertainers, the couple wanted to remain engaged with family and friends while preparing food and drinks. The island was therefore designed to house the venting hob, sink and hot tap, allowing them to face into the room rather than towards a wall. Seating at the island creates a relaxed gathering point, perfect for informal dining and conversation.

The original large range cooker and decorative canopy were replaced with a single oven and combination oven within a tall housing. This change freed up the back wall, allowing for a longer run of uninterrupted worktop and giving the overall design a more streamlined, contemporary feel.

Practical storage was a key consideration. A narrow pull-out larder, deep drawer packs, tall oven housing and two double pantry units provide generous and well-organised storage for everyday items. Everything is easy to access when cooking, yet simple to tidy away when guests arrive. In the dining area, mid-height cabinetry and a bespoke bench seat offer additional hidden storage while maintaining a cohesive flow between kitchen and dining spaces.

The granite worktops in Kinawa Rose introduce a subtle light lavender tone, blended with greys and dramatic black veining. We carefully colour-matched the hand-painted cabinetry to complement the stone, while the flooring picks up the soft grey tones to create a harmonious and distinctive palette.

The result is a truly stunning and welcoming space – designed for cooking, entertaining and enjoying time together.

Detail

The furniture is from our Wessex in-frame shaker range, finished with a 6mm cockbead for subtle definition and craftsmanship. Arlington stainless steel bar handles provide a contemporary contrast, while the 30mm Kinawa Rose granite worktops add durability and a striking natural feature to the design.

Appliances were selected from the Neff Collection to deliver both performance and sleek styling. A single pyrolytic oven with VarioSteam function sits alongside a pyrolytic combination oven, both finished with anthracite flex trims and full touch control displays. The flex venting hob is seamlessly integrated into the island, maintaining open sightlines across the room. An undercounter wine cooler and fully integrated dishwasher complete the appliance specification.

At the sink, a Franke Mythos stainless steel undermounted bowl is paired with a Quooker hot  water tap in stainless steel, offering instant boiling water.

LED flexible strip lighting beneath the wall units and within the plinths provides both practical task lighting and soft ambient illumination.

Internally, the cabinetry includes a pull-out larder, two pantry packet racks and a twin waste bin, ensuring the kitchen remains beautifully organised as well as highly functional.
