The world is your oyster when it comes to painted kitchens because you have the greatest choice of colour – limited only by your imagination.
Whether you choose paint from your favourite brand to match the interior of your home, or from the extensive range of trade colours, you can have exactly what you want!
Your kitchen can be painted in the same colour throughout or you can select two or three different colours. Whether these are bright, contrasting colours, or subtle, muted tones, you can walk into a kitchen that suits your personality and lifestyle perfectly.

If you like the idea of a splash of colour but not quite brave enough to commitment to colour on your cabinets, try using a strong colour on the walls instead and keep the kitchen cabinet doors a more neutral shade.
Another trend for 2022 is “off” paint shades. These are colours that may appear grey or cream in flat light (typically, an English rainy or winter day, dusk or evening) but come to life in sunshine or with carefully positioned lighting, parading their true colours for all to see. It’s important to use tester pots to see the colours in your kitchen and in the different lights.
Something that is popular this year with paint is colour blocking. In the kitchen, this means painting the kitchen doors in different, contrasting and sometimes clashing colours. It’s part of the “retro” or “mid-century” style that many people are finding brightens up their home in 2022 just as it did 70 years ago after WWII and the Coronation. Combinations such as Turquoise and Coral, or Mustard and Spruce Green liven up the kitchen and bring a glow to family life.
If you want the look for now, but not for always – simply add this trend to your kitchen by colour blocking a wall!
GETTING THE RIGHT FINISH
If you decide to paint your kitchen yourself, an eggshell finish is the ideal choice as it can be wiped clean to remove any splashes or typical marks. Most paints have a silk or matt finish depending on the brand. We would advice to avoid using a gloss paint unless you want a lacquered effect.
If you fancy giving your existing kitchen a face lift, you can add a lick of paint to your existing kitchen. It’s super important to remove all traces of dirt and grease and smooth the surface before using a suitable primer and then a top coat. Two or even three coats may be needed if you are picking a mid to dark colour, especially if you’re painting over another colour.
At John Franklin Kitchens, we paint your kitchen furniture in your home by a specialist cabinet decorator after it is fully installed. This means there are no chips or cracks, and all joints are sealed with paint.
